Seachem Prime 250ml

Prime is a concentrated agent used for treating water intended for both freshwater and marine aquariums. It neutralizes chlorine, chloramine, and ammonia, converting it into a non-toxic form that is quickly removed by the biological filter. It can be used during the tank maturation process to reduce the levels of ammonia and nitrites. By binding nitrates and nitrites, it facilitates their removal by biological filters. It also neutralizes heavy metals present in tap water. It accelerates the production and regeneration of the protective mucous layer on fish bodies. It does not have an acidic reaction and does not affect the pH of the water. It does not overly burden the protein skimmer. It is recommended to add it when setting up a new aquarium and with each water change. Many companies produce agents to neutralize chlorine in the water, however, none are as effective as Prime produced by Seachem. It is the second most concentrated water conditioner in terms of active substances after the Alpha product from the AquaVitro line by the same manufacturer. A 100 ml package is sufficient to purify nearly 4,000 liters of water. PRIME contains a compound that converts ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates into non-toxic forms. The action of all conditioners is based on chemical processes called reduction reactions. Toxic chlorine (Cl2) dissolved in water is transformed into safe chloride ions (Cl-). In the reduction reaction, the bonds between chlorine and nitrogen atoms in the chloramine molecule (NH2Cl) are also broken, which releases chlorine atoms and replaces them with hydrogen, resulting in an ammonia molecule (NH3). At this stage, most ordinary conditioning agents stop working, leaving a large amount of dangerous ammonia in the water. Seachem has gone a step further by adding to the Prime preparation a compound that binds ammonia. Choosing the right kind of water conditioner should be well thought out. If the tap water contains chloramine, classic agents based on sodium thiosulfate may not be sufficient. Prime stimulates the production and regeneration of the protective mucus layer on the fish bodies, and also has the advantage (especially important for marine aquarists) that it does not burden the protein skimmer.

Usage: Use 1 cap (5 ml) per every 200 liters of prepared water. This dose allows the removal of 1mg/l ammonia, 4 mg/l chloramine, or 5 mg/l chlorine. Smaller doses: each thread notch inside the cap corresponds to a volume of 1 ml. The agent can be poured directly into the aquarium (adjusting the amount to its volume), but it is better to add it to the tank where the water is being prepared for change. The appearance of a sulfur smell is a normal phenomenon. When the concentration of chloramine is particularly high, a double dose can be used. In the event of a sudden increase in nitrite levels in the aquarium, even a fivefold higher dose is considered safe. When the water temperature is higher than 30 degrees, and the level of chlorine or ammonia is low, half of the recommended amount of the agent can be added.

The agent is safe for all freshwater and saltwater fish as well as for aquatic amphibians and reptiles.
