Why feed insects vitamins?
All reptiles and most amphibians cannot produce certain essential organic compounds - hydrocarbons - in their own bodies. Moreover, they cannot absorb them in pure form as a dietary supplement. That is why a proper set of vitamins and minerals is given to feeder insects, as they can produce these hydrocarbons in a form easily absorbable for reptiles and amphibians. This organic compound then occurs in the appropriate form inside the feeder insect and can be absorbed by reptiles.
