Description
What is Repti-ZOO Mini UV LED?
It is a modern LED lamp emitting purple light radiation with ultraviolet light, but not falling within the UVB or UVC wavelengths. It has a long lifespan, does not heat up, and is energy-efficient.
What animals is it dedicated to?
It is specially designed for scorpions, which have the ability to produce fluorescent pigment. It is worth noting that 99% of species available for sale in Europe possess this ability. You may already own a scorpion and not even know that your pet can glow in the dark!
What UV radiation does it emit and what is its power and scale?
The lamp emits UV waves with a wavelength of 395nm.
How do scorpions glow?
Scorpions are typical nocturnal hunters. But it may seem strange that instead of camouflaging, they fluoresce. Scorpions produce a small amount of fluorescent pigment, which breaks down as it glows. It must be firmly emphasized here that scorpions do not lose this property even after their death. This pigment is continuously regenerated.
According to researchers, it is likely that scorpions do not see UV rays, which are a component of starlight and moonlight. If so, they are unaware that the night is quite bright, and while hunting, they may easily attract the attention of larger predators. However, scorpions may see the color green, and thus the glimmer of their own bodies. Their own "glowing" would therefore signal to them whether the night is dark or bright, and thus whether it is safe to leave their hiding place to hunt. Other theories suggest that it serves as a deterrent signal or a lure for prey.
What type of socket does the lamp have?
Standard, often referred to as a large E27 socket. That is 27mm.
Dimensions:
- height 6.5cm (including the socket)
- height 3.5cm (excluding the socket)
- diameter 4.8cm
