Description
UV light, unlike reptiles, is not visible to humans, which is why the need to replace the UV light source, which is extremely important for most terrarium animals, is often ignored.
UV radiation stimulates the synthesis of vitamin D3, triggers appetite, helps recognize the environment and sexual partners, aids in food searching, and increases the vitality and activity of the animal.
Birds and reptiles, unlike humans, have the appropriate receptors to receive ultraviolet light. The lack of UV radiation in the lighting provided to our charges is often downplayed by caregivers, as mentioned, humans cannot perceive this light and focus on lighting in the visible spectrum for themselves.
It should be noted that the emission of UV rays from a light source decreases over time. Therefore, it is important to remember to regularly replace the bulb/tube, which should usually happen after 100 - 150 days.
Instructions for use:
Hold the card under the UV lamp in the area of most intense activity to see the intensity of the emitted light (low, moderate, or high).
The distance between the card and the light source should be adjusted according to your needs.
The card measures the intensity of ultraviolet radiation within 10 seconds.
The presence of UVB rays is indicated by the appearance of a purple sun. Take a picture of the sun. Repeat the test every 14 days. Compare the colors of the purple sun from the photos. If you notice that the sun is becoming "paler," it means that the UV light source needs to be replaced.
Maintain a minimum 10-second interval between subsequent measurements.
