Water analysis using a smartphone - new generation
Tip: Each test strip is suitable for only one measurement. Rescanning the strip leads to different values, as the strip continues to react.
How accurate is the measurement method?
Smartphones perform an automatic white balance, the color reading is more accurate than if we were comparing colors with our eyes! If the test is conducted correctly, the result is absolutely reliable. For nitrite results, additional measurement using a drop test has proven effective (JBL PROAQUATEST NO2 Nitrite), if the JBL ProScan does NOT show 0, as this value must be at 100% (nitrites are deadly toxic to fish from 0.4 mg/l).
Possible errors during execution:
When removing the test strip from the water, it should not be shaken vertically, as the soaked colors mix with other color fields. Water should be shaken HORIZONTALLY and carefully. Without shaking, drops on the color fields reflect light too strongly, resulting in overly inaccurate results. When photographing the test strip against the color chart, it is ideal to use daylight. But even more important is that the incoming light is even, without creating partial shadows and partially sunlit areas. Otherwise, the colors on the chart would be lit differently.
