Description
- interesting appearance of "fern"
- small roots
- unique leaf structure with hairs
- does not require fertilization
- prevents the growth of algae
Unique appearance:
Salvinia Natans differs in many ways from typical floating plants. First of all, the successive leaves grow alternately along the stem, creating an elongated plant reminiscent of a fern. Additionally, the upper side of the leaves is covered with tiny hairs that look extraordinarily spectacular. These hairs have a couple of essential functions without which this plant could not exist, but you will read about that below...
Smaller roots:
As a floating plant, Salvinia Natans has rather short roots. This is not a disadvantage, but rather an advantage for tanks with low water levels, such as a paludarium. Moreover, smaller roots do not require abundant nitrogen fertilization as is the case with the popular Pistia.
Easy cultivation:
This plant does not require fertilization, CO2, or nutrient-rich substrate. It is resistant to fluctuations in water pH and can adapt to a wide range of this parameter. Just place the plant in water and watch how well it develops. The only task you will need to do is occasionally remove excess plants.
Where can it be found in nature?
This plant "inhabits" standing and slow-flowing waters in the central part of Europe.
Hairs on the leaves:
They contain air bubbles that allow the plant to float on the water or rise to the surface in case of submersion, for example, due to a mischievous frog. Additionally, the hairs separate the water from the leaves themselves, allowing the plant to photosynthesize even in the event of flooding. Besides protecting against water, the hairs also provide protection against excessive sunlight.
How many plants do we send?
When you purchase Salvinia Natans from this offer, you will receive 4 plants with 4 - 9 leaves each. This is an ideal amount to start with, as these plants can quickly propagate under the right conditions.
