Description
Basic differences between the common tubifex and the medicinal tubifex:
Note!!!
The common tubifex can be toxic:
Due to the potential accumulation of toxins in the bodies of tubifex, they can cause poisoning in fish. When feeding fish this food, caution is advised – one must ensure the quality of the source from which it is taken.
Tubifex, like most living organisms, has many species and subspecies occurring in various geographical locations. They are usually named after their habitat, just like in the case of tubifex. The common tubifex, also known as the mud tubifex, is often used in aquaristics as food and is, in many ways, the opposite of the medicinal tubifex. Primarily, it inhabits the lowest parts of the water (mud) and can be found in heavily polluted waters of classes IV and V. For this reason, toxins can accumulate in its body, which are not dangerous to the tubifex itself but are lethal to fish. To safely feed the mud tubifex to fish, it must be thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and detoxified. Don’t count on the fact that tubifex sold for a few zlotys in competitive offers undergoes such expensive processes.
So what should you do? Is it worth feeding tubifex at all?
Of course! Tubifex, in addition to many nutritional values, also has medicinal and anti-constipation properties.
The medicinal tubifex, unlike its cousin, inhabits only the cleanest waters. Absolutely clean water does not lead to the accumulation of toxins in the tubifex's body, and it is completely healthy and free of dangerous compounds.
How to serve?
Tubifex is shaped into a cube the size of a dice. This cube floats on the water for a long time and can be nibbled by fish at will. The tubifex itself, once detached from the cube, also floats on the water's surface for a long time and sinks very slowly. Due to its high protein content, you should not feed only tubifex as the main food, as you will simply end up with very fat fish.
Tubifex absorbs everything from its surroundings. If you need to provide any medicinal preparation to fish, soak the food in a solution of that medicine and give it to the fish. By eating the food, they will take in the medicine you provided.

STOP MANUAL WEIGHING:
Think about it. You buy a reptile for 200 - 300 PLN or a whole bunch of fish. And then you buy unverified and non-original food weighed in disgusting conditions and happily feed it to your pet. Is that reasonable? Do you know what usual filthy conditions prevail in a place where a random seller weighs food for your beloved reptile or fish with a cup? The food is kept in open bags of 100 liters, and from time to time someone approaches there with a disgusting cup. They don't wash their hands, cup, or the station or scale, and shamelessly pour food into a ziplock bag. Whatever falls off, they will scoop it up with their hand from the counter and add it to you. If they are generous, they might blow into the bag to prevent the food from getting crushed. Bon appétit!
