Evolution Aqua K1 Micro 50l - movable "Kaldnes" filtration insert
Advanced moving filter media provide much more effective biological filtration compared to even the best and most porous ceramics. A smaller version of K1 Media. Due to its small size, the K1 Micro insert allows for the development of a larger amount of nitrifying bacteria. Excellent for both mechanical and biological filtration in aquariums and ponds.

Description
K1 Micro is a smaller version of the media, with a diameter of 7 mm and a length of 9 mm. Despite its smaller dimensions, the total surface area of K1 Micro media is as much as 1400 m²/m³, of which 950 m²/m³ is protected surface area. Due to its compact size, K1 Micro is often preferred in mechanical filters, especially in static or moving aquarium filters.
How does the moving media work?
The K1 media should move throughout the entire space designated for it. The lightweight media can easily be "carried" by the water current, thus remaining in constant motion. It effectively reduces ammonia, ammonium, and nitrites from the water through the action of nitrifying bacteria.
Why is moving media better?
This leads to a rapid increase in the population of nitrifying bacteria, which effectively and quickly lower the levels of NH3, NH4, and NO2. Through vigorous mixing and constant collision with each other and the walls of the filter, K1 cubes clean themselves and shed bacteria. This has a powerful significance for filtration due to two advantages arising from the shedding of bacteria from K1.
First: it provides space and opportunity for the colonization of new bacteria. Second: the bacteria end up in other media and the tank. They settle there and improve filtration.
Popularity and research on K1:
Moving media are gaining increasing popularity. Research conducted for over 15 years by Evolution Aqua shows that moving media are the future of all aquatic systems, including ponds, freshwater aquariums, and marine tanks.
In which filters can it be used? How to use it?
In any filter with a media container, such as:
- Pond: pressure and flow filters. Brand examples: Jecod CBF or UBF, or homemade from tanks, barrels, or large baskets.
- Marine aquaristics: there will surely be room for this media in the sump. Even if you didn't plan for it before. The media can be used with others. The floating K1 media does not take up space from existing media.
- Freshwater aquarium:
external filter - you can place K1 in the media basket, fill up to 1/2 of the basket's volume
internal filter - such as SunSun CHJ or Sea Star Turbo or Aquael Turbo, which have baskets for this type of media
Does K1 need to float or can it be "static"?
The media can also be used as a regular biological media. It is not required for it to be moving. However, the ability to float and mix increases its efficiency.
