JBL CombiBloc CristalProfi E700/900 - filter cartridge for CristalProfi E filters

Quality of foam material:
Foam materials used in aquaristics with live animals must be tested for harmful substances, as most plastics release problematic plasticizers into the water. All plastics used by JBL have successfully passed this test and do not release ANY harmful substances into the water.

Cleaning plastics:
For many months, it is sufficient to rinse dirty filter sponges under warm running water and then, before reinstalling, inoculate them with filter bacteria (JBL FilterStart). Since mechanical cleaning will NEVER ensure complete cleanliness and dirt will remain in the filter sponge, it is recommended to replace filter sponges approximately every 6 months. If you leave a cleaned filter sponge in a jar of clean fresh water overnight, you will see the next morning how much dirt is still in that supposedly clean sponge.

Inoculating filter material with cleaning bacteria:
The initial colonization of filter material with cleaning bacteria takes about 1-2 weeks in freshwater, while in saltwater, the time is twice as long. If the filter material has already been used, the “re-colonization” time is doubled because re-colonization does not occur easily on dead bacterial strains. Adding concentrated cleaning bacteria like in JBL FilterStart reduces the biological startup time to about 24 hours. Another reason is to colonize the existing space in the filter material with beneficial bacteria so that pathogenic germs have no place to spread. This has been scientifically proven in the meantime.
