Red glass transmits infrared waves produced by the filament of a light bulb. Red light is invisible to animals, so it does not disturb their natural day/night cycle, making it ideal for use around the clock, which in turn allows for observation of the pet even at night. The interior of the bulb has a reflective coating that focuses the radiation generated by it. This allows directing the stream of thermal radiation in a specific direction, enabling the creation of so-called heat islands in the terrarium.
