Safe substrates from the ECO PLANT brand or gravel from construction sites?:
Usually, gravels, sands, and stones available in auctions come from construction sites. This is the main cause of algae growth, dying plants, and fish. The reason for this is unstable pH, unknown chemical compounds contained in the gravel, and inhabited viruses, fungi, and pathogens that remain despite washing and boiling by the unfortunate user. It’s enough to buy a ton of stone for two hundred and push it onto aquarists as aquarium gravel. Enough of such hypocrisy!
Eco Plant offers natural gravels sourced from aquatic environments for your aquarium. This gravel has far better properties than construction gravel used for making concrete. It does not cause pH swings, does not contain harmful substances, and the only bacteria present are nitrifying bacteria. Due to its neutrality to water, structure, porosity, and color, the gravel has "anti-algae" properties. It does not cause algae growth.
Decoration or main substrate?
That depends on you. Gravel works great as a so-called "island" or river in the aquarium. You can also use it as the main substrate.
Is it suitable for planting plants?
Absolutely. You can easily plant aquatic plants in this substrate.
Should I rinse it or not?
The gravel is washed and populated with bacteria. Unfortunately, during transport, there is slight abrasion of the gravel (stone rubbing against stone) causing a residue that should be rinsed off.
Rinsing takes little time and is safe. Remember to rinse it under running water at a slightly warm temperature (lukewarm water). This will prevent excessive washing away of bacteria.
Why is the stone wet after opening the package?
For two reasons:
1: it is taken straight from the water and packed in a double bag.
2: this allows for the life and reproduction of bacteria.
