Safe substrates from the ECO PLANT brand or gravel from construction sites?
Usually, the gravels and sands available in auctions come from construction sites. This is the main cause of algae growth, plant and fish death. The reason for this is unstable pH, unknown chemical compounds present in the gravel, and inhabited viruses, fungi, and pathogens, which remain despite the unfortunate user's washing and boiling. It's enough to buy a ton of gravel for two hundred and sell it to aquarists, claiming it’s aquarium gravel. Enough of this hypocrisy!
Eco Plant offers natural gravels sourced from aquatic environments for your aquarium. This gravel has far better properties than construction gravel used for making concrete. It does not cause pH fluctuations, does not contain harmful substances, and the only bacteria present are nitrifying bacteria. Due to its neutrality to water, structure, porosity, and color, this gravel has "anti-algae" properties. It does not promote algae growth.
Decoration or main substrate?
That depends on you. Gravel works great as a so-called "island" or river in the aquarium. You can also use it as the main substrate.
Is it suitable for planting plants?
Absolutely. You can easily plant aquatic plants in this substrate.
Rinse or not rinse?
The gravel is rinsed and populated with bacteria. Unfortunately, during transport, there is slight abrasion of the gravel (stone rubbing against stone), causing a film that needs to be rinsed off.
Rinsing takes little time and is safe. Remember to rinse it under running water that is slightly warm (lukewarm water). This will prevent excessive washing away of the bacteria.
Why is the gravel wet when the package is opened?
For two reasons:
1: it is taken straight from the water and packed in a double bag.
2: this allows bacteria to live and reproduce.
