Are ECO PLANT substrates or pebbles from a stone supplier safe?:
Usually, gravels, sands, and stones available for sale come from construction suppliers. This is the main cause of algae growth, plant and fish deaths. The reason for this is unstable pH, unknown chemical compounds contained in the gravel, and inhabited viruses, fungi, and pathogens, which are present despite washing and boiling by the unfortunate user. It is enough to buy a ton of stone for two hundred zlotys and push it onto aquarists as aquarium pebbles. Enough of such hypocrisy!
Eco Plant offers natural gravels sourced from aquatic environments for your aquarium. This gravel has much better properties than construction gravel used for making concrete. It does not cause pH fluctuations, does not contain harmful substances, and the only bacteria present are nitrifying bacteria. Due to its neutrality to water, structure, porosity, and color, the gravel has "anti-algae" properties, preventing algae growth.
Decoration or main substrate?
That depends on you. The gravel works great as a so-called "island" or river in the aquarium. You can also use it as the main substrate.
Is it suitable for planting plants?
Absolutely. You can easily plant aquatic plants in this substrate.
To rinse or not to rinse?
The gravel is washed and inhabited by bacteria. Unfortunately, during transport, there is slight abrasion of the gravel (stone rubbing against stone), causing a film that needs to be rinsed off.
Rinsing takes little time and is safe. Remember to rinse under running water that is slightly warm (lukewarm water). This will prevent excessive washing away of bacteria.
Why is the stone wet after opening the package?
For two reasons:
1: it is taken straight from the water and packed in a double bag.
2: this allows for the life and reproduction of bacteria.
