Safe substrates from the ECO PLANT brand or gravel from a stone supply?
Usually, the gravels and sands available in auctions come from construction supplies. This is the main reason for algae growth, dying plants, and fish. The cause of this is unstable pH, unknown chemical compounds contained in the gravel, and resident viruses, fungi, and pathogens, present despite washing and boiling by the unfortunate user. It’s enough to buy a ton of gravel for two hundred and push it to aquarists as aquarium gravel. No more hypocrisy!
Eco Plant offers natural gravels sourced from aquatic environments for your aquarium. This gravel has much better properties than construction gravel used for making concrete. It does not cause pH spikes, does not contain harmful substances, and the only bacteria present are nitrifying bacteria. Due to its neutrality to water, structure, porosity, and color, the gravel has "anti-algae" properties, preventing algae formation.
Decoration or main substrate?
That depends on you. The gravel works great as a so-called "island" or river in the aquarium. You can also use it as the main substrate.
Is it suitable for planting plants?
Definitely. You can easily plant aquatic plants in this substrate.
Rinse or not to rinse?
The gravel is rinsed and populated with bacteria. Unfortunately, during transport, there is slight abrasion of the gravel (stone rubbing against stone) causing a residue that needs to be rinsed off.
Rinsing takes little time and is safe. Remember to rinse it under running water at a slightly warm temperature (lukewarm water). This will prevent excessive washing out of the bacteria.
Why is the gravel wet when the package is opened?
For two reasons:
1: it is taken straight from the water and packed in a double bag.
2: this allows for the life and reproduction of bacteria.
Packaging: 1kg
