Description
Searching for vitamins in the sand is a common issue for desert reptiles, especially for bearded dragons and leopard geckos. This can lead to the animal getting impacted. At the same time, sand is the only substrate that reflects the natural environment of desert animals. That’s why the manufacturer Komodo has responded to the needs of these animals and the concerns of breeders by creating edible sand.
What is Komodo CaCo Sand?
It is natural calcium carbonate. This exact compound is a popular calcium source for reptiles and amphibians from all brands. The sand is made of 100% calcium carbonate CaCo3.
Is the sand safe?
It is the best substrate for desert animals. It reflects their natural environment, allows for digging, egg-laying, reduces stress, and enhances their natural behaviors. At the same time, edible sand komodo poses no threat if ingested. Additionally, CaCo3 prevents the development of mites and bacteria in the substrate, creating a fully safe and hygienic environment.
Can the sand be eaten?
Yes, the sand can be eaten by all species of desert reptiles. It is a natural source of calcium and is easily digestible.
What if my reptile eats sand continuously?
The animal is not in danger. However, constant nibbling on sand may indicate signs of calcium deficiency. In that case, the breeder should increase the calcium dosage or change the UVB lighting.
How to clean the substrate and when to replace it?
The sand should be spot cleaned if soiled. For sifting, we recommend the Repti-Zoo Sand Scoope. The substrate should be completely replaced at least every 12 months.
Recommended for:
- Bearded Dragon (Pogona vitticeps)
- Leopard Gecko (Eublepharis macularius)

- Leopard Tortoise (Stigmochelys Geochelone)
- and other reptiles from desert and semi-desert areas
The package contains 4 kg of CaCo3 sand in "Terracotta" color.
Usage instructions:
A 4kg package is sufficient for an area of 60x60cm. If using a heating mat, a substrate layer above 1cm may reduce the mat's efficiency.
