Description
Healthy aquarium/healthy pond with nearly natural conditions. The proper water parameters in the aquarium/pond depend on the stock of fish and plants. Also, if the water appears clear, it may be contaminated. Poor values can lead to diseases or algae in the aquarium/pond. For a healthy aquarium/pond with nearly natural conditions, regular monitoring and adjustment of water parameters are important.
Why test? Maintaining the proper O2 value as consistently as possible is an important condition for the well-being of the inhabitants of the aquarium and garden pond, as well as for the growth of aquatic plants. Oxygen is the "elixir of life" for all animal organisms. All animals in the aquarium and pond need oxygen to breathe. But also those rather "invisible helpers" in the aquarium and pond, bacteria that break down harmful substances, depend on sufficient oxygen content to carry out their beneficial activities. In aquariums and ponds with low plant occupancy or without plants at all, and in marine aquariums, oxygen should always be maintained at the appropriate balance level with technical devices. Water absorbs oxygen through its surface. The greater the circulation on the surface, the more oxygen is absorbed. When algae die off and when using many medications, the oxygen content in the water should be increased through aeration.
Recommended oxygen content:
Freshwater aquarium (multi-species aquarium): 5-8 mg/l
Lake Malawi/Tanganyika aquarium: 5-8 mg/l
Aquariums with low fish stock (Aquascaping): 5-10 mg/l
Marine aquariums: 5-10 mg/l
Garden ponds: 5-10 mg/l
