Description
For every water analysis, the company JBL offers water tests in the form of quick tests or color-changing tests. They determine one specific value or several values simultaneously. With these water tests, issues related to algae can be identified, and unfavorable values of nitrates, nitrites, potassium, magnesium, etc., can be established.
Why test?
Silicon is one of the most abundant elements on Earth. During the weathering of silicate rocks, silicon enters surface and groundwater in the form of silicate. Therefore, tap water, depending on the type of substrate in a given region, contains varying amounts of dissolved silicate. Silicon is important for aquaristics and garden ponds as a nutrient for diatoms, certain aquatic plants, and colonies of siliceous sponges and some other invertebrates.
Recommended silicate values:
Freshwater aquarium (multi-species aquarium): 0-2.0 mg/l
Malawi/Tanganyika Lake aquarium: Since fish species that eat biofilm readily consume diatoms, the silicate content does not play a role here. Without algae-eating fish, the value should be 0-2.0 mg/l
Aquariums with vegetation and few fish (Aquascaping): 0-2.0 mg/l
Marine aquariums: 0-1.0 mg/l
Garden ponds: 0-2.0 mg/l
