Magnesium plays a crucial role in biological processes, participating in the construction of hard coral skeletons and in chemical processes by providing buffering capacity and preventing excessive precipitation of calcium and bicarbonates in water. In a marine aquarium, it is very important to constantly monitor the concentration of calcium, magnesium, and carbonate hardness. The concentration of magnesium in natural sea water can range from 1260-1500 mg/l (ppm). The test is sufficient for performing 55-60 determinations of magnesium concentration in the aquarium, within the range indicated in the table.
