Like most animal species, dog and cat fur consists of two layers – a longer outer coat and what is known as undercoat. The undercoat of dogs and cats should be brushed out, especially during intense shedding periods, namely in spring and autumn. Brushing improves blood circulation in the skin, thus directly affecting the quality of the growing fur. Moreover, matted undercoat is an ideal shelter for fleas, ticks, and other unwanted pests. If left unbrushed, it can also mat together, causing skin irritations and inflammations. The frequency of grooming sessions depends on the breed and type of fur that our pet has. It is worthwhile to get the pet used to being brushed from the earliest weeks of life.
